- Taking into account my personal teaching context, what would be the advantatges and disadvantages of using the ELP with my groups?
ELP is a personal document that it contans personal experience of language learning and experience with other culture.
On the one hand, it supports the development of learner autonomy, plurilingualism and intercultural awareness and competence. And, on the other hand, it allows students to record their language learning achievements and their experience of learning and using language at school or outside school.
Howadays we live in a technological and multicultural society.
For this reason, it is necessary that as teacher we adapted our material and resources to facilitate ITC at schools.
Our students travel around the world and it is necessary that they have ELP because it facilitates their mobility in Europe.
Also, ELP has a lot of functions because it is very motivating for pupils to see their experience.
I think that ELP has a lot of advantatge in my group ( which is 2nd grade of Primary School).
On this occasion could be:
- Students can be more motivation because they can see their experience, their activities and their results. We can try to encourage that they want to improve slowly because they can see everytime their process due to ELP is a transparence process that it allows us a communicative learning using a flexible, active and useful document for students.
- We can use it as an assessment. We can find three types of evaluation: self, teacher and official exam. Official exam are know as A1, A2...this causes them to be self-critical.
- It helps to prepare students with the appropriate skills to pass different examens and to create an autonomous personality.
As tecahers it allows us to learn more about the experience of our students and their possibilities.
On other hand, if we want that our students use ELP we should teach when they are very young.
To do this, we have different models adapted to the age of the pupils and we need a lot of responsibility and work from part of students because for their it is a strange document and they need to understand very well.
Moreover, this theme needs a lot of preparation. Teachers must know the document and know how we make a good use. It is important that we use it correctly.
ELP has three elements. On of them is
language passport. It describes linguistic competence. It includes three types of assessment as I said and ir records formal qualifications.
The other component is
language biography. It records what students can do, their linguistic and cultural experiences and their fosters multilingual.
And the last element is
my language dossier. In it, we can find the collection of work as selected materials to illustrate claims in the passport and biography and gather written and oral samples too.

It is very important that we begin to introduce the ELP in the classroom because it offers many advantatge.
Also, ELP gives us the opportunities to use new tecnhologies and to prepare our students for everyday life,
For this reason we need to make a change in schools and introduce the ELP.
